As you know I’ve been doing a little spring cleaning in the brand department. It was time for a fresh look! As much as I love graphic design, rebranding and designing for yourself can be a tricky thing. I wanted to share my story and some tips I've learned along the way...
My goal was to design a new personal and blog logo that's true to my design style with something fresh and colorful, yet graphic
and simple. I wanted it to be a cue to my area of expertise with an
artistic font that feels like my natural handwriting. I
couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
Once I finalized the design, it was time to bring my new
look to life. With my new blog design up and running, personal business cards
& stationary were next on my list. For this, I knew I would need a company
that matches my style and aesthetic. Tiny Prints is my go to resource for the
most stylish and creative cards & stationary so when I found out they also
have business products I knew it would be a great fit. Tiny Prints offers a
wide range of creative type business products and lots of predesigned templates
to help you get started as well as a custom and DIY option for the more
involved clients (like me!). I love the look of my new square business cards and my
colorful personalized stationary and notepad complete the package. A big thank
you to Tiny Prints for the helping bring my new logo to life!
Last but not least, here are a few tips that I learned along the way to help simplify the rebranding process ::
1 | Start by identifying your brand, your
audience, and your goals. What does your new brand/logo represent?
What feeling do you want it to evoke? What key elements are most important? How
will you utilize the new design? Determine your main goals in order
to set a clear path.
2 | Get inspired! Search blogs,
magazines, and of course Pinterest to find brand and logo inspiration. See
what’s out there and collect examples of what you do and don’t like. You may
surprise yourself at what you’re drawn to. Don't be afraid to open yourself up to new
possibilities.
3 | Narrow it down. What brands were
you drawn to and why? Was it the format, the colors, the font? Pay attention to
other brand’s advertising, brand voice, and social media marketing strategies.
What brands and logos did you find most successful? What do you want to avoid?
4 | Get creative and start
designing. Whether you prefer hand sketching or digital design, put your ideas
on paper. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get it right the first time. It’s
a labor of love and will likely evolve a good bit before you find the new look your
heart desires. Step away and come back later. Do you still love it? Is it
meeting the goals you identified as step 1? Edit, edit, and edit some more.
Embrace graphic design and don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are so many
great graphic design resources out there like Blogshop and A Beautiful Mess e-courses and workshops. Use what works for you.
5 | Bring it to life! Once you’ve
finalized your new look be sure to launch it across all aspects of your
brand. Consistency is key! Utilize creative resources that fit your aesthetic
to bring your new brand to life like TinyPrints – for creative business solutions, business cards, and stationary and
Etsy – for one of a graphic design and products.
