When I was a kid, the most exciting part about Sunday school was the apple juice cups and crafts. I found out today, on a visit to First Baptist Church Atlanta, that things are much more exciting these days! First Baptist Atlanta has been my family's church home for as long as I can remember; there have been many design changes over the years but the most eye catching was the children's area. Walking in, you transition from the traditional white and burgundy decor to "Main Street"- the FBC Kids wing of the church that has been completely transformed into a world all it's own. With a city-scape of Atlanta ahead, you walk down a faux brick central hall, passing by the FBC theater (resembling the Atlanta FOX theater), the Atlanta airport, complete with flat screen computers with interactive FBC Kids games, and post office mailboxes sitting on the sidewalk, dusted with faux snow. This magical land is visual intriguing for kids and adults of all ages, and definitely a new spin on Sunday School.
