a little humor

One of my favorite go-to blogs for a good laugh is Unhappy Hipsters. It's a humorous take on the "lonely world" of modern design and architecture. The captions literally make me laugh out loud.

Another one of my favorites is Plethora for iphone. Plethora is a design inspiration gallery with amazing images of all kinds. While perusing Plethora the images below caught my attention because I instantly imagined the unhappy hipster inspired captions to go along with each.

Hope they give you the chuckle they gave me...

Timmy had no need for childish things such as play-dates or summer camp,  he much preferred tantalizing conversation with his stuffed broccoli over imaginary tea.

every home needs...

One of my dearest friends is moving away! *tear*
Callaway and I met in the awkward, puberty stricken years of middle school. I thought she was too cool for school (which she was) and we've been friends ever since. After growing up in Atlanta, attending college at the University of Georgia, and returning to Atlanta post graduation, Callaway is now setting sail for Tallahassee Florida where she will begin her first year of Law School at FSU.
Among the sadness of seeing her go and the excitement of what lies ahead for her is the ever daunting task of moving. yuck. BUT... with moving comes a new home and getting that pulled together is the best!

So, what does my dearest Callaway need to make her new place feel like home? Well, here are a few of my favorite things that I believe EVERY home needs...

a fun pop of color
a favorite piece of artwork
a "do-it-yourself" touch
an touch of humor
a collection of favorite photos of family and friends
someone to miss you when you are away

and a well stocked bar for the impromptu party with friends

I am so proud of you Callaway and excited for this next chapter in your life. Congratulations! I love you sista!

that's how we do it down in the South

A recent article in Garden & Gun magazine caught my attention:
"Southern Women, A New Generation of Women Who Are Redefining the Southern Belle".
With family roots in Texas, being born and raised in Georgia, and attending school in Alabama- I am a proud Southern girl myself. Some of my favorite foods are cheese grits, collard greens, and fried green tomatoes. I say ya'll and sweetie and I love magnolias, front porches and good ole sweet tea.

Of course, there are plenty of Southern stereotypes out there but this article hits home and pinpoints the essence of a Southern woman. Below are a few of my favorite trademarks, quoted from the article, that remind me of the beautiful Southern women who raised me- my mama, my grandmother and my two aunts, and all the southern-isms they instilled in me.

"...being Southern means handwritten thank-you notes and using a rhino horn’s worth of salt in every recipe."

"Southern women are smart enough to recognize what works—Spanx, Aqua Net—and wise to the allocation of effort. Why pretend the world is something it isn’t? Southern women do not capitalize on their looks to snag men, though that often results. The reason we Southern women take care of ourselves is because, simply, Southern women are caretakers."

"Southern women listen and we talk and we laugh without apology. We are seldom shocked. Southern women like men and allow them to stay men. Southern women are not afraid to dance. Southern women know you can’t outrun your past, that manners count, and that your mother deserves a phone call every Sunday. Southern women can say more with a cut of their eyes than a whole debate club’s worth of speeches. Southern women know the value of a stiff drink, among other things. "

Well said Ms. Allison Glock and welcome back down South.
