Local Living // The Lyric + Pop-Up Shops + What's on 2nd moves to 1st

The Lyric Theatre's Grand Re-Opening is finally here! After being vacant for 45 years, the restored Lyric Theater will re-open this Thursday, January 14th. This is something that has been much anticipated for downtown Birmingham and is surely just the beginning of more redevelopment to come for Birmingham's historic Theater district. 

In honor of this exciting time for downtown Birmingham REV Birmingham is featuring pop-up shops January 14-16th around the Lyric to help activate the streetscape and promote local businesses and vibrancy in downtown. In other downtown news, you may have heard that What's on 2nd is moving to 1st. In this article in Weld, shop owner Steve Gilmer shares their plan to re-open at their new location on First Avenue North, just one block away from their current shop, in February. To prepare for the transition, everything at What's on 2nd is 50% off! If you haven't been to What's on 2nd, GO! Go see what all this great little downtown gem has to offer. It is one of my very favorite places in the city. When I first heard the news it kind of broke my heart. We love having this charming little shop as our view from our loft. We walk by it every day, love taking friends and family there, and we even took engagement pictures there (you can see them here). We're thankful that they will only be a block away and are hopeful that their old space will be filled with another great local shop or restaurant. Whoever it is, they have big shoes to fill.
