color trends 2011

As many of you know, I recently moved in with a new roommate- my mom! After graduating, I returned to Atlanta and am currently living at home with my family. Recently, I ended up with a personal design project- moving my room into the basement, which was previously my teenage brothers - needless to say it needs a little TLC to make it a place for me. The first step in the process =  paint. I opted for a Sherwin Williams color "natural choice". This subtle cream tone is a simple and comforting color, great for adding light and warmth to the basement room. After debating over colors for quite a while I began to wonder, "why am I so drawn to the neutrals"? An article I read recently gave me some insight, and turns out I'm on trend! Who knew!

According to the Paint Quality Institute, Affordable remodeling is driving the paint colors towards more basic colors. We all know the economy has affected almost every aspect of American life, including paint color trends. Budget friendly decorating will likely be a major trend in 2011; using basic neutral paint colors will allow spaces to be easily changed through accessories rather than repainting and remodeling. Experts predict that "well-worn hues" such as blues will be seen increasingly in the upcoming year; the spectrum ranges from calming to bold. Other trends include high shine paints and metallic finishes- more shine means more light and "pizazz". Just what we need for the new year!
