Fall Fun at the Food and Wine Fest

Happy first day of fall everybody! There are some great local events coming up around Birmingham to get out and enjoy this beautiful time of year! A few fun things on my radar are Breakin' Bread, Cask + Drum, the Galley and Garden Trimtab Patio Takeover and this Friday, my pal Rainie from Be Well and I will be checking out Western's Fall Wine and Food Festival at the Birmingham Zoo.

A festival dedicated to food and wine? I can already tell you that we'll be in heaven. Sounds like the perfect little Friday night if I do say myself. Western's 26th Annual Fall Food and Wine Festival will feature over 650 wines to taste, of a variety of styles and price ranges, and some of the best Birmingham food from over 30 local vendors.

It will be a great way to spend the first fall friday! Want to join? For more information or to purchase tickets online visit http://westernsupermarkets.com/wine-shop/. All proceeds will benefit the Emmet O'neal Library in Mountain Brook.

hello weekend

I've loved this short week and am excited to say hello to the weekend ahead! With football season finally here and fall right around the corner, there are lots of fun things happening lately. Here are a few things we'll be up to this weekend.

We can't wait to check out the Bham Art Walk tonight from 5-10 and tomorrow from 12-6 featuring visual artists, live musicians, street performers, food and drink vendors, and children's activities. It's FREE and right outside our loft. (double win!)

I'll be getting a new do Saturday am and am thinking of going for the LOB (you know... long bob). A blunt, collarbone length coif seems perfect for cooler temps. Here are a few images currently inspiring me.

We'll be cheering on the TIDE on Saturday and enjoying some of our favorites tailgate recipes and trying out a few new ones like greek yogurt jalapeno quac, homemade yellow hammers, and hot cheesy roasted red pepper dip.

Our Save The Dates are in from Minted and we'll be stuffing, stamping, and sending those out this weekend! We couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

Jones Valley Teaching Farm had their fall planting day last weekend which we missed, so we're hoping to spend some time on Sunday clearing out the old and planting the new. We're looking to this gardening guide to help us select our Fall crops.

I'm hoping to make it by Avondale Antiques to search for new treasures. I've got my heart set on starting a milk glass collection. It's so pretty and looks beautiful in any setting.

Our loft needs a little refresh and I've been dreaming up a little foyer restyle (i'll share more soon...) and this odd little lamp might just be the flare that I need!

Happy Fri-yay! Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

On my radar // china displays

A few months ago, Max’s grandmother “Nonnie” sent us the family china, a lovely, delicate pattern of silver, gray, and yellow accent leaves. Besides the fact that it’s beautiful and in excellent condition, what means the most to me is that it has been passed down through the generations. I am highly sentimental and cherish things that belonged to those that I love, regardless of their actual value. Having this beautiful china collection that has been a part of their family for so many years is so meaningful!

As you know, I believe that your home should be livable and enjoyed. Currently, all of these beautiful pieces are stored in boxes in our guestroom and I am dying to put them out on display and actually use them. Over the weekend, on a trip to visit our family friends Sally and Larry, they surprised me with an early wedding present - a beautiful china cabinet handed down from their family to ours. How special! China, and a cabinet to display it, from some of the people we love most. The cabinet was too large for us to transport from North Georgia back to Birmingham, but I cannot wait to get it in our loft and have all of our beautiful pieces on display. Until then, here are a few china displays that have been inspiring me!

When did I become old enough to care about china!?
