sun in my belly

Theres nothing I love more than trying out a new eatery on a beautiful Saturday, so naturally on the morning of my birthday that's just what we did. Max and I ventured to Kirkwood to try out the neighborhood cafe Sun in My Belly, which based on the name alone I was sure to fall in love with. Immediately upon arrival I got giddy at the sight of the trendy crowd, repurposed building, eclectic interior, and a menu that could have been made for me. Pimento cheese omlette, challah french toast, pressed brie and fig jam focaccia... basically my foodie dreams come true.
After ogling over the menu I decided to try the special - an prosciutto, purple onion, mushrooms, and gouda cheese omelet served with a homemade biscuit and honey bacon... It was love at first bite.

The belly pleasing southern-inspired menu and sunny "vintage-meets-crafty" interior made this an all around win for a gal like me. SiMB put some sun in my belly, a smile on my face, and a new go-to brunch spot on my local favorites list.

happy birthday

krispy kreme cake for my 4th birthday

my birthday party - I hope theres a kitty sweatshirt like casey's for me in that box

February is a very special month in the Shaw family- besides the wonderful excuse to decorate with glitter and hearts and devour sugar cookies and chocolates - it is the month of my mom's, my brother's and my birthday! With our birthdays and valentines all in one short month, February has become one of the most love filled and festive times of the year for us.

This upcoming weekend my mom and I will both be celebrating our birthdays- mine on feb 11 and hers on feb 12. Naturally we have shared many birthday cakes, balloons, parties, and even presents and have always taken full advantage of celebrating our Birthdays as more of an event rather than limiting ourselves to only one day each.

I have many fond memories of special birthday celebrations - a family trip to seaworld, a surprise limo ride around atlanta with all my preteen girl friends, a Mexican fiesta, a girls trip skiing at a Christmas tree farm, and one of my personal favs clubbing in Atlanta with my mom for my 21st and her 50th (oh yeah!).

So here's to us mom- and a big happy birthday to you! Thank you for bringing me into this world and sharing your special day with me each year. Thank you for being my best friend, the voice in my head, and my roommate. Thank you for all the years of advice and love you have given me, for the cooking secrets, sense of humor, and love of children that you have passed down, and for all the wonderful birthday parties, presents, and memories you have given me over the years.

Happy birthday to you my sweet mom! May your day be filled with all of the love and joy that you deserve.

... And may mine be filled with presents and cake :)

six more wintery weeks...

So the ole' groundhog predicts six more weeks of winter... don't get me wrong, I am as excited about spring as the next guy but winter does have it's charms. Soon it will be all pastels and pollen so enjoy this winter weather while you can - snuggle up by a fire, drink hot chocolate, and wear those wool socks because before you know spring will have sprung. Here are a few winter interior inspirations to keep you in the winter spirit- we have six more weeks people so let's make the best of it!

the beautiful fireplace, rustic architectural details, and
ample seating make this space great for indoor entertaining

warm wood tones and natural materials make this a cozy cottage

layers of pillows and throws are perfect
for snuggling up with a good book

dark colors and thick quilts create
a sense of warmth and comfort

and who wouldn't love a rustic winter getaway at a place like this?
