Fall always does this to me… gives me that “back to school”
feeling that makes me want to buy fall clothes, cozy up our home, and prepare
for cooler temperatures. It’s still pretty hot here in Birmingham, so it may be
a little too early to start pulling out the blankets and boots but, it’s the
perfect time to do a little refresh of your space. I’ve been dreaming of cozier
textures, monochromatic colors and metallic tones, and Target and World Market
are having a major moment right now. These are a few of my fall favorites and 4
tips to prep your home for Fall.
Clear out and
simplify :: this is an important step this time of
year, as you prepare for the holiday decor ahead (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas…).
Clear out any unnecessary clutter and simplify your accessories to give your
space a little breathing room. It may look stark at first, but it will be like
a breath of fresh air and give you a blank(er) canvas to work with once you do
start adding in those holiday touches.
Add a few new
finds :: adding in a few new pieces to your decor can make the biggest
difference. Small changes, like swapping out your throw pillows or artwork, or
restyling your mantel, can help revitalize and refresh your space.
Bring the fall foliage in :: An easy way to bring some of the beauty of fall into your home is to literally bring some of the fall leaves inside. Instead of a vase of flowers, try a collection of cotton stems or magnolia branches. These richer colors and warmer textures add a fall element to your home in a simple, natural way.
Swap color for
texture :: with the
beautiful fall leaves and colorful pumpkins, it’s a great time to swap out the
bright colors in your home for more textural neutrals. This allows your fall
plants and accessories really pop, while still having interest and warmth
through texture. Think faux fur, sea-grass, wood tones, metallics etc.
There's just
something so wonderful about the change of seasons - Saturday football, crisp
mornings, and the refreshing-ness of change. Welcome fall, we're ready for ya!
