Fall Refresh

I got my love for decorating from my mom, who has always had a knack for making our home a comfortable cozy place, full of personality. When I was a kid, the two of us would take on summer redecorating projects (striping my bedroom, turning the basement into a playroom, organizing our closets…) and we always had such fun working together to update our home. Little did I know, these summer projects would spark my lifelong love for design.

Recently, when I was in Atlanta, my mom asked for my input on what she could to do update her space. I explained that a simple de-cluttering and refreshing would do wonders. It’s easy to get stuck with “where things go” but rearranging, simplifying, and re-styling can make your space feel brand new. After returning home, I realized that I need to practice what I preach! We have so many great pieces that we love, but as my aunt Leisa says, “You don’t have to get rid of it, just put it away for a while.” So, it’s time to purge the unnecessary, get organized, and refresh my space.

Our loft has cream colored walls, and with the industrial historic nature of our building and our love of vintage, it can start to look a little dingy. A little reorganizing, spray paint, kitchen counter restyling, and a new entry way console table and we’ll have a refreshed space, ready for fall, in no time! These are a few images that are serving as my inspiration. Stay tuned for updates on how it turns out!

Fall Fun at the Food and Wine Fest

Happy first day of fall everybody! There are some great local events coming up around Birmingham to get out and enjoy this beautiful time of year! A few fun things on my radar are Breakin' Bread, Cask + Drum, the Galley and Garden Trimtab Patio Takeover and this Friday, my pal Rainie from Be Well and I will be checking out Western's Fall Wine and Food Festival at the Birmingham Zoo.

A festival dedicated to food and wine? I can already tell you that we'll be in heaven. Sounds like the perfect little Friday night if I do say myself. Western's 26th Annual Fall Food and Wine Festival will feature over 650 wines to taste, of a variety of styles and price ranges, and some of the best Birmingham food from over 30 local vendors.

It will be a great way to spend the first fall friday! Want to join? For more information or to purchase tickets online visit http://westernsupermarkets.com/wine-shop/. All proceeds will benefit the Emmet O'neal Library in Mountain Brook.

hello weekend

I've loved this short week and am excited to say hello to the weekend ahead! With football season finally here and fall right around the corner, there are lots of fun things happening lately. Here are a few things we'll be up to this weekend.

We can't wait to check out the Bham Art Walk tonight from 5-10 and tomorrow from 12-6 featuring visual artists, live musicians, street performers, food and drink vendors, and children's activities. It's FREE and right outside our loft. (double win!)

I'll be getting a new do Saturday am and am thinking of going for the LOB (you know... long bob). A blunt, collarbone length coif seems perfect for cooler temps. Here are a few images currently inspiring me.

We'll be cheering on the TIDE on Saturday and enjoying some of our favorites tailgate recipes and trying out a few new ones like greek yogurt jalapeno quac, homemade yellow hammers, and hot cheesy roasted red pepper dip.

Our Save The Dates are in from Minted and we'll be stuffing, stamping, and sending those out this weekend! We couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

Jones Valley Teaching Farm had their fall planting day last weekend which we missed, so we're hoping to spend some time on Sunday clearing out the old and planting the new. We're looking to this gardening guide to help us select our Fall crops.

I'm hoping to make it by Avondale Antiques to search for new treasures. I've got my heart set on starting a milk glass collection. It's so pretty and looks beautiful in any setting.

Our loft needs a little refresh and I've been dreaming up a little foyer restyle (i'll share more soon...) and this odd little lamp might just be the flare that I need!

Happy Fri-yay! Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
