happy valentines day to you and yours

My beautiful grandmother Della lives in an assisted living home.  Each year on Valentines, my mom's kindergarten class, and the other kindergarten classes from her school, visit my grandmother and the other residents to send a little love their way. I was excited to get to join them this year. We spent the morning singing love songs, passing out homemade valentines, and heart shaped boxes of chocolates to each of the residents. The children were so loving as they walked around, giving out hugs and valentines. Seeing these sweet young children, with all their lives ahead of them, dancing and singing love songs to the elderly people was truly heart warming. May your Valentines Day be filled with this type of wonderful happiness and love.

23 already?!

I woke up this morning to find it was February 11, 2011- thus making me 23 years old today. It seems like just yesterday, it was my Strawberry Shortcake birthday party and I was dreaming of the day it would be my 16th birthday. Next thing you know, I'm turning 16 and finally getting my hands on my own set of car keys and a LICENSE, but still couldn't wait till I could stay out past 11:00. Before I knew it, I was 18 with a 12:00 curfew and feeling the sense of freedom, still I couldn't wait to turn 21 and celebrate in true fashion, legally! Finally, the big "2-1", I must admit my 21st birthday was amazing, from what I can remember. And now.... i'm 23?!?! Waking up this morning, to balloons and birthday cards from my parents, having enough money to actually afford to go out and celebrate, gathering with friends tonight for drinks and tapas, and my boyfriend heading my way from Birmingham to take me to lunch and shower me with love and gifts- I have to say, aging past 21 isn't quite as painful as I thought- thanks to friends, family, my boyfriend, and lots of positivity (and wrinkle cream) :)

Thank you everyone for making my birthday a special one!

a lovely valentine

February is an exciting month for me; my mom, my brother and I all have February birthdays and then of course there's Valentines Day. Now I know many people have anxiety and depression around this particular day but to me it is just so fun! I have always loved making valentine boxes for the Valentine exchange at school, biting into all of the chocolates in the big heart shaped box, and the cheesy play on words on all the cards. This excitement towards Valentines has been instilled in me by my mother, who decorated our house for Valentines right after taking down our Christmas tree. My favorite decoration that my mom pulls out each year is her vintage valentine collection- their sweet old fashioned pictures and sayings warm my heart. They are from a time where there was no pressure to buy overpriced flowers and jewlery, just a simple valentine card with a sweet message. What a lovely valentine.
